Soundproof Office Pods Now Available for Rent in Boston
Soundproof office pods are now available to rent in Boston. Three sizes, delivered and installed by our local partner, from a six-month term — and the monthly price is published here rather than held behind an enquiry form.
This is the alternative to buying one. A one-person acoustic booth lists at $9,500 to purchase; the same class of pod rents at $499 a month with maintenance inside the fee. Below is what Boston teams can rent, what renting costs against buying, and who it actually suits.
Which pods can you rent in Boston?
Boston is stocked with the Strata range, in three sizes:
- Strata S — one person, from $499 a month. The phone booth: it stands where a desk stood and takes the call off the floor.
- Strata M — one to two people, from $599 a month. Room for a seated session of an hour or an afternoon.
- Strata SL — four to six people, from $749 a month. Long and slim on plan at 2,300 × 966 mm, so it can stand along a wall instead of eating into the open floor.

Every pod arrives with ventilation, dimmable LED lighting, power and USB-C, occupancy sensing and full-height double glazing. Footprints run 11.8, 14.5 and 16.1 sq ft — a spare desk, in other words, not a room. If you are still choosing between them, compare the three side by side.
Why rent an office pod instead of buying one?
Because the arithmetic is closer than most people assume, and worth doing before the capital goes out. Here it is, using the monthly fee and the purchase price this site publishes for each of our three pod classes:
| Pod | Monthly rent | Purchase price | Months to break even |
|---|---|---|---|
| Call Pod, 1 person | $499 | $9,500 | About 19 |
| Work Pod, 1 person | $599 | $12,000 | About 20 |
| Meeting Pod, 2 to 4 | $749 | $16,500 | About 22 |
So on sticker price alone, buying overtakes renting somewhere between month 19 and month 22. We would rather print that than pretend the comparison always runs our way.
What the break-even column leaves out is the part that decides it. Rent and the maintenance sits in the fee; buy and servicing, repairs, relocation between floors or offices and eventual disposal are all yours, and none of them appear on the invoice you compare against. Renting is an operating cost; buying is capital, committed before the office has told you whether one booth was enough.
If ownership is where you expect to land, rent-to-buy opens from month 12 and puts a share of every payment towards owning the pod. The column-by-column comparison sets out the rest, and the rent-or-buy calculator on the products page runs both against a purchase price you supply.
Who does renting suit in Boston?
Four situations, mostly:
- A short lease, a sublease or a coworking floor. The pod disassembles and moves between floors, so it leaves when you do. A built room does not.
- A team that is still growing. Add pods as headcount changes rather than sizing for a number you are guessing at today.
- An office that does not yet know how many booths it needs. Most do not. Our guide to how many phone booths an office needs works the ratio through on a 120-person floor; renting lets you test the answer instead of buying it.
- Project space, event space and temporary fit-outs. Anything with an end date attached.
There is a fifth, and it is the one we hear most often in Boston: the build-out will not get approved. Published US fit-out guidance from JLL and CBRE puts the cost at $150 to $400 per sq ft and the timeline at three to nine months for a small conference room inside an existing lease. A pod installs in under two to four hours depending on size, and needs no permit, no contractor and no landlord conversation.
What is included, and what is quoted separately?
The monthly fee covers the pod and its maintenance. Servicing and repairs are ours for as long as you rent it.
Delivery, installation and collection are quoted separately, against your address and your access. That is not a hedge: a ground floor with double doors and a loading bay is a different job from a fourth floor reached by one small lift, and a flat national number would simply be wrong for one of them. Tell us the floor, the lift and the narrowest doorway on the route and the figure comes back accurate the first time. Our guide to office pod dimensions, doorways and ceiling height lists the six measurements worth taking before you order.
Terms run from six months. FLEX at six months and up stays the most flexible; ESSENTIAL at twelve fixes the monthly rate; ENTERPRISE at twenty-four subsidizes delivery and collection and opens custom branding in your own colors. After the initial term the contract rolls monthly on 30 days’ notice. Full detail sits on the pricing page.
How quiet is an acoustic office booth, really?
Up to 43 dB of noise reduction, lab-tested. In practice that means about 32 dB inside the pod while the floor outside is running at 75 dB — the difference between a conversation you can follow and one you cannot.
Worth being straight about what that is and is not. It is sound reduction, not a recording studio: someone shouting three feet away will still register, and the pod is designed to keep your call private and the floor quiet rather than to deliver silence. For most open-plan problems that is the whole of the requirement.
